Hello, Professor Graham Le Roux, I’m really glad you found some time between the lectures.

The pleasure is mine.

Tell me, what sparked your interest in cryptocurrencies? Was it blockchain?

I can’t really say that it was not a factor. Blockchain technology provides solutions to many problems of the modern world and it has the potential to make this world a better and fairer place. But I have to admit it was not the technology that caught my attention.

What did, then?

Well, due to my field of expertise - mostly their great investment potential. There are so many different cryptocurrencies with so many uses and development strategies, that anyone can find one they would want to invest in.

You speak of types. What types to you mean?

It’s not an official classification, but rather something I noticed on my own while preparing for many lectures. I differenciate mostly based in their use: financial to be used as virtual money, think good old Bitcoin, tokens used on one application or platform, personal tokens, mostly based on the previously mentioned platforms, and… “collectibles”, like Dogecoin, which references a well-known internet joke. Of course, you can divide them based on the mining availability, model, or decentralization level, but “my” division is the easiest and most illustrative in my opinion. And what is classification if not one big shorthand?

Yes, I think you’re right. Leaving the investment topic, are there any types or uses of cryptocurrencies that are especially interesting to you?

Again, because of my line of work I’m especially interested in the finance type e-coins. They provide incredible freedom in exchange for just a fraction of price that the banks would require. They have the potential to revolutionize not only our means of payment, but the whole payment culture.

Do you believe they will become a substitute for banks?

Oh, no, not during my lifetime at least. Banks have hundred years of tradition going for them and people surely won’t abandon that so fast. But it’s evident that the e-coins are gaining more and more popularity and if banks do nothing to remain in their high spot, they might lose it. Especially commercial banks, which are entirely at the mercy of the free market.

What does that mean, Mr. Graham Le Roux?

Well, it means that either they start to react to their clients’ changing needs, or they will quickly become a relic of the past.

Do you have any favourites, save for the Ripple that you mentioned in another interview?

It’s hard for me to pick “favourites” when it comes to investing. As you already noticed I’m actively interested in Ripple and often go back to it during my prelections, but it’s not my only interest.

Professor Graham, do you support cryptocurrency investing courses?

Their idea agrees with be, but I can’t say all courses are automatically good. It’s always possible to stumble upon materials of simply medicore quality. Of course, I have my opinions on some singled-out offers, but I’m not here to advertise them. Enough said, I’m not opposed to them. All in all, their aim is to educate and popularise the access to informations about cryptocurrencies and investing in them, so you can say our aims overlap.

Alright, last question then… Professor Graham Le Roux, do you have any advice for beginner investors?

Of course. Read a lot, do not rush, have patience to observe and draw conclusions, and update your knowledge. And don’t be afraid to use the help of professional courses, lectures and other measures.
